PostDec an exhibition highlighting the Georgette and Richard Koopman Distinguished Chairs in the Visual Arts at the Hartford Art School, brought together artists from the United States, England, Turkey, Mexico, and Vietnam who shared a passion for color, pattern, and decoration on a monumental scale. They unabashedly blurred conventional boundaries between high and low art, craft, industrial and textile design, and the decorative arts. However, underlying the flamboyance and surface beauty of their work there are stories to be told, exotic places to explore, personal longings, and commentaries on history, politics, and culture.
The 2007/2008 Koopman chair recipient, Joyce Kozloff, was featured alongside artists such as Polly Apfelbaum, Jim Isermann, Joyce Kozloff, Robert Kushner, Jesse Lambert, Dinh Q. Le, Jean Lowe, Kim MacConnel, Virgil Marti, Suzanne McClelland, Beatriz Milhazes, Renee Petropoulos, Lari Pittman, Eduardo Sarabia, Beverly Semmes, Miriam Schapiro, Yinka Shonabare, Fred Tomaselli, Hanza Turgul, and Robert Zakanitch.

Symbols, Icons & Indices, an exhibition highlighting the Georgette and Richard Koopman Distinguished Chairs in the Visual Arts at the Hartford Art School featured three individuals with a wide range of experiences and opinions who came together to form a compelling and thought-provoking exhibition about Visual Communication Design. Rather than focusing on the more predictable, commercial application of graphic design, this exhibition addressed a shared commitment and vision exploring political, social, and cultural issues and the effect of design on society.
The 2005/2006 Koopman chair recipients were writer Akiko Busch, Canadian designer Robert L. Peters, FGDC, and New York-based designer and founder of Worldstudio Foundation, Mark Randall.
